Nature's Ocean Aquarium Sand:
• Every grain of sand in the ocean is covered with a biofilm. Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite is naturally from the ocean. The bacteria
on the sand are in a biofilm,
therefore the
bacteria are in their natural state, immediately
removing toxic waste.
• Artificially
adding bacteria (or cultured bacteria) does not
make the same biofilm. It is not as efficient as
the biofilm found on sand in the ocean which
have been naturally
selected through millions of
years of evolution.
• All bacteria on Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite
are preserved in their natural live state using
a patented process and a patented saltwater
enrichment solution
QX- 23™.
• Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ
Live™ Aragonite is guaranteed to contain
more than 10 million live bacteria per pound of
sand
in a natural biofilm, ready to instantly
start the
cycling process and stabilize your
tank.
• Contains live marine autotrophic bacteria to
provide
proper inorganic chemical balance.

Rapid
Cycling of Organic Compounds in the
Newly
Established Aquarium:
In the
beginning of a newly established aquarium, waste
products can quickly build up to toxic levels.
Introducing fish, plants, and food to your
aquarium begins a natural process called “Biochemical Cycling” which is exemplified
by the nitrogen cycle.
The process begins when
fish and invertebrates excrete waste which is
added to the ammonia produced by decaying food
and organic compounds. The more sources of fish
waste, the quicker and greater the ammonia
problem. Harmful ammonia and
nitrite are constantly converted into less
harmful nitrates, which in turn is used by
plants and algae for food. An aquarium is full
of both autotrophic and heterotrophic bacteria
that want nothing more than to attach, grow, and
form BIOFILMS where the bacteria convert toxic
nitrogenous compounds and ammonia into harmless
products.
Nature provides many
types of bacteria that in the presence of oxygen
carry out the oxidation of ammonia to nitrites
and eventually to nitrates in a process known as
nitrification. First, bacteria settle on
aragonite (reef sand) where they grow into
colonies and eventually form a BIOFILM. Marine
nitrifying bacteria in the biofilm oxidize
ammonia to nitrite. Then other bacterial species
further oxidize nitrite to nitrate. Nitrate not
utilized by plants is removed by other bacteria
in the absence of oxygen (the anaerobic
environment found in the lower levels of the
sediment) in a process called denitrification.
These bacteria are not harmful and are quite
abundant in nature. However, three conditions
are required for this process to occur:
1. A surface upon
which bacteria can attach, grow, and form
BIOFILM.
2. Ammonia as the substrate to start the process.
3. An aerobic environment.
When you start a new aquarium with dry sand or gravel, colonies or beneficial bacteria have not yet had the chance to attach to a surface and grow. For aperiod of several weeks this presents avery hazardous environemnt for your fish. One has to gradually build up the source of ammonia (i.e., start with only one or two small fish) to allow time for the beneficial bacteria to grow and form a BIOFILM.
Now with Nature’s Ocean
Bio-Activ ™ Live Aragonite Reef Sand, there is
no waiting period or delay while waiting for
bacteria to establish themselves. Both
autotrophic and heterotrophic bacteria required
for rapid cycling of the aquarium are already in
their natural state - a BIOFILM on the sand
particles. Nature’s Ocean Bio-Activ ™ Live
Aragonite Reef Sand is fortified with a patented
enrichment solution, QX-23™, which keeps the
bacteria alive, primed and ready to cycle
harmful metabolic end products the moment it is
added to your aquarium. Each pound of Nature’s
Ocean Bio-Activ ™ Live Aragonite Reef Sand
contains more than 10 million live bacteria per
pound in
naturally-formed biofilms ready to biochemically
cycle your aquarium and rapidly provide a
healthy environment.

1-Question. What is Nature’s Ocean Live Aquarium Sand?
Answer: Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite Live Aquarium Sand is
naturally derived from the ocean.
Its Live
Sand formula has a reputation for eliminating the final
traces of nitrates. It is used to
remove toxic wastes
from saltwater aquarium tanks. Live sand helps speed the

faster introduction of livestock. Back To TopPrint Page
2-Question. What is the difference between Reef Sand and Nature's Ocean Live Aquarium Sand?
Answer:Reef
Sand is live sand when it is on the bottom of the ocean
floor, it is here where the
reef sand is alive. When the
Reef Sand has been out of the seawater for a period of
time and
exposed to the airborne elements it is considered
to be dead sand. (lacking nitrifying bacteria) Back To TopPrint Page
3-How
is it used? Answer:Nature’s
Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite Live Sand is preferred by saltwater aquarists as
a natural biological
filtration source, but can be used for many other purposes
such as adding it to a
tank as a shallow or deep sand bed to
using it in combination with live rocks and aquarium plants. Use
a minimum of 1lb Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Live
Sand per gallon of saltwater. Set up an appropriate
filtering system and allow it to circulate. During the
first month introduce no more than 1” of fish per 5
gallon
saltwater. Back To TopPrint Page

5-Question. What are the essential elements of Nature's Ocean Live Aquarium Sand?
Answer: The
essential elements are as follows: Zinc Sulphate, Calcium
Chloride, Manganese Chloride,
Cobalt Chloride, Copper Sulphate,
Sodium Molybdate, Strontium Chloride, Nickel Chloride, Potassium
Bromide. Back To TopPrint Page
6-Question. Where does Nature's Ocean Live Aquarium Sand come from?
Answer: Live
sand comes from the bottom of the ocean floor. It varies in its composition depending on
where it was collected,
but it usually consists of coral sand that is pulverized and
eroded pieces of
coral. Some of the sand around coral reefs is
the result of the feeding activity of parrot fish. These
fish
scrape the coral surfaces with their hard beaks to get at algae
and then crush the calcareous
material into fine particles. The
parrot fish excrete this indigestible debris in big clouds and
the
resulting material ends up on the sea floor. Live Sand is
harvested responsibly and is not dangerous to
the long term
health of any reef worldwide. Back To TopPrint Page

20-Can
I clean my aquarium with a magnet if there is black beach sand
in the tank?
Answer: Yes, when cleaning your aquarium with a magnet scrapper it is
important to be careful not
to get your magnet to close to your
black beach sand. If you pick up some of its magnetite
particles
just simply remove them with your fingers or a cloth. It is important to ensure that all the particles
are
removed to prevent any accidental scratching of the aquarium
walls. You can use a non-
magnetic scraper to remove any algae
that is close to the black beach sand substrate. Back To Top Print Page
21- Why does particles of black beach sand get attracted to
the magnet in the scrapper?
Answer: Black Beach Sand is a 100% all natural product that is composed of
minerals that erode
and collect near beaches. One of black
sands (mineral sands) major mineral components is called
magnetite. Magnetite is a non-water soluble mineral that is
attracted to magnet scrappers. This
mineral is totally inert in
an aquarium environment and has a dark coloration giving black
beach
sand its natural appearance. Back To Top Print Page
